Preparing a Luxury Vehicle for Transport
Modern luxury cars are full of systems that need a moment's attention before they are loaded. This checklist covers the ones that matter.
Document the car thoroughly. Wash it, then photograph every panel, each wheel, the glass, the interior, and the odometer. Good light and close-ups are worth the effort. The driver completes a condition report as well, and the two records together settle any question quickly.
Set the suspension. If the car has air suspension or adjustable ride height, raise it to its highest setting for loading and tell the driver how to do the same at delivery. Some models have a dedicated transport or jack mode that prevents the system from self-leveling on the trailer.
Deal with the electronics. Switch off the alarm, the tilt and interior motion sensors, and any automatic parking brake feature that might interfere with loading. Turn off automatic wipers and folding-mirror functions that could activate unexpectedly.
Provide the right key. Give the driver a single key or fob. If the car has a valet mode that limits access to the trunk and glovebox, use it.
Protect the wheels. Large alloy wheels are the most commonly marked part of a luxury car. Point out their condition during the inspection, and ask that straps go over the tires and not through the spokes.
Remove everything personal. Take out sunglasses, garage remotes, toll tags, and documents. Leave only the owner's manual.
Leave a quarter tank of fuel. For a plug-in hybrid or an electric model, leave the battery at about half.
Finally, share the car's approximate value with your dispatcher. It helps us choose a carrier with appropriate coverage, and it is worth asking your own insurer how your policy treats a vehicle in transit.

About 60 to 80 percent more than open transport on the same route. A shipment that costs $900 open would typically cost $1,450 to $1,600 enclosed.
Is my vehicle fully insured?
Every carrier we assign has active cargo insurance. Limits vary from carrier to carrier, so tell us the value of your vehicle. We match it with suitable coverage, and you can ask to see the certificate before pickup.
What is a top-rack position?
It is a spot on the upper deck of an open carrier. The car is above road spray and cannot be dripped on by a vehicle overhead. Tell us you want it when you book. It may cost slightly more.
How is a car with air suspension shipped?
It is raised to its highest setting or placed in transport mode for loading, then secured at the wheels. Tell us the car has air suspension so the driver is prepared.
Can you collect a new car from a dealership?
Yes. Give us the dealer's details and your salesperson's contact. We schedule pickup once the vehicle has been paid for and released.
Can you return a leased vehicle to a dealer in another state?
Yes. We deliver to the dealership and obtain a signature from the staff member who accepts the car. Confirm the return appointment with the dealer first.
How long does it take?
Transit times match standard service: 1 to 3 days under 500 miles, 3 to 5 days up to 1,500 miles, and 7 to 10 days cross-country. Allow extra lead time to schedule an enclosed carrier.
Will the driver put miles on my car?
Only the short distance needed to load and unload it, typically a few hundred feet. The odometer reading is recorded at pickup and at delivery.
Can you ship a lowered car or one with a body kit?
Yes. Tell us the ground clearance at the lowest point. We arrange a carrier with a lift gate or extended ramps so the front end and side skirts clear safely.
