How to Prepare a Golf Cart for Shipping
A golf cart is easy to get ready. The few steps below prevent nearly all of the problems we see.
For an electric cart, find the run/tow switch, which is usually under the seat. Set it to Tow before the cart is loaded. This protects the motor controller while the cart is being moved without the key on. Switch it back to Run after delivery.
Charge the batteries enough for the cart to drive on and off the trailer. Check that battery hold-downs are tight and terminals are covered. Pack the charger, and secure it so it cannot slide.
For a gas cart, leave about a quarter tank of fuel, check for leaks, and close the fuel shutoff if there is one.
Protect the top and the windshield. Fold a folding windshield down and latch it, or remove it and pack it flat. Take off enclosures, rain curtains, and seat covers. They act like sails on the highway and will tear. Make sure the roof is bolted on firmly.
Remove loose items. Take out golf bags, coolers, sand bottles, ball washers, and anything in the baskets or the dash. Unclip removable stereo units.
Secure the seats. On many carts the seat bottom simply lifts off. Strap it down or remove it, so it cannot blow out.
Measure a modified cart. A lift kit and a roof can make a cart surprisingly tall. Give us the overall height, the width at the tires, and the length including a rear seat or cargo box.
Check the tires and the brakes, set the parking brake, and note any existing scratches on the body and the seats.
Finally, photograph the cart from all sides, and keep the key and the charger documentation together.

How much does it cost to ship a golf cart?

Can I ship a golf cart with my car?
Yes. A cart can be added to a car shipment going to the same address. Tell us about both when you request a quote.
What is the tow switch, and why does it matter?
Electric carts have a run/tow switch, normally under the seat. In the Tow position the controller is protected while the cart is moved. Set it to Tow before pickup and back to Run after delivery.
Do I need to remove the batteries?
No. Batteries stay in the cart. Make sure they are secured and the terminals are covered.
Should the windshield and enclosure stay on?
Fold the windshield down and latch it, or remove it. Take off soft enclosures and covers, which can tear at highway speed.
Can you ship a lifted or six-passenger cart?
Yes. Give us the overall height, width, and length. Larger carts take more trailer space and cost somewhat more.
Can you ship several carts at once?
Yes. We arrange fleet moves for golf courses, resorts, communities, and rental businesses. The cost for each cart is lower when they travel together.
Is a street-legal cart shipped differently?
No. A low-speed vehicle ships the same way as any cart. Remove the tag if your state requires it to be returned, and keep the registration with you.
Is my cart insured?
Yes. The carrier's cargo insurance covers the cart during transport. Accessories and loose items left on it are not covered.
How long does delivery take?
After pickup, about 1 to 3 days for trips under 500 miles, 3 to 5 days up to 1,500 miles, and 7 to 10 days for longer routes.
Can you pick up from a dealer or a custom builder?
Yes. Give us their address and a contact. We collect the cart once it is finished, paid for, and released, and deliver it to your door.
Can you deliver to a condo, a resort, or a gated community?
Yes. Tell us about gate access and any rules on trucks. If a large truck cannot enter, the driver unloads at the entrance and you drive the cart in.
Is there a deposit?
No. You pay on delivery, and the price matches your quote.
