Two bridges, four cities

They do not cover damage that was already there, which is why the pickup inspection matters. Mechanical problems unrelated to transport, such as a battery that fails or a tire that was already worn, are generally not covered either. Some policies treat weather events differently from collisions, so ask if that concerns you.
Your part is documentation. Wash the car, photograph it from every angle, and read the driver's inspection report before signing. At delivery, inspect the vehicle before the driver leaves, and write any new damage on the report. A claim is far easier to resolve when it is noted at delivery.
